Coastguard Whangaroa
The local Volunteer Coastguard Unit owns and runs two repeater VHF Channels for the coastal area extending from the Cavalli Islands to Doubtless Bay. CH 84 is the Coastguard trip report and emergency channel and is manned 24 hours per day, it also broadcasts the latest Met Service weather at 08:30, 12:30, 16:30 and 20:30. CH62 is used for ship to ship calling and other local recreational activities such as Sport Fishing Club Tournaments. This channel is manned by a shore based operator only when necassary.
The coastguard rescue vessel WHANGAROA RESCUE is based in the Whangaroa Marina and is manned by Coastguard trained local volunteers.
