Whangaroa Volunteer Coastguard

The local Volunteer Coastguard Unit owns and runs two repeater VHF Channels for the coastal area extending from the Cavalli Islands to Doubtless Bay. CH 84 is the Coastguard trip report and emergency channel and is manned 24 hours per day, it also broadcasts the latest Met Service weather at 08:30, 12:30, 16:30 and 20:30.  CH62 is used for ship to ship calling and other local recreational activities such as Gamefish Club Tournaments. This channel is manned by a shore based operator only when necassary.

The coastguard rescue vessel is due to be operational in Whangaroa in the fourth quarter of 2008. 

Whangaroa Big Game Fishing Club.

Whangaroa Big Gamefish Club is host to many fishing tournaments throughout the year and has its clubrooms at the entrance to the marina. Visitors are welcome and meals are available at most times during the summer months.
